LESSONS FROM THE LOW COUNTRIES
June
1- 30, 2007
Portland, Oregon
Margret
E. Short’s splendid
series is inspired by
the color palettes of
eleven select paintings
in the exhibit Rembrandt
and the Golden Age of
Dutch Art, currently on
view at the Portland Art
Museum.
Ms. Short replicated
17th-century paints for
this collection by hand-grinding
each pigment. Luscious
colors with magical names
like lapis lazuli, cinnabar,
malachite, |
|
and azurite are the
focus of each bountiful
still life. Detailed reproductions
of Dutch period frames
complete each painting.
The recipient of two
coveted Salmagundi Club
Awards, the Grumbacher
Gold Medallion, and many
other national honors,
Ms. Short is also a Signature
member of the Oil Painters
of America, American Women
Artists, and the Copley
Society.
