My
works of art represent the profound
excitement I feel when light
touches objects in a dramatic
way," says painter Margret
E. Short. "Color and lush
paint are tools I use to bring
lasting light to moments of
tranquility." Short Paints
in the chiaroscuro style of
the Dutch School, which emphasizes
the effects of light and shadow
by illuminating the focal point
with strong light and painting
other areas with less detail
and lower values. Short uses
the materials of the old masters:
lead-primed linens, pure pigments,
and resin/oil medium. "Technique
and materials in painting are
as important as the result," she
says. One of Short's floral
still lifes, PRELUDE, won the
1998 Salmagundi Club Award at
New York's Salmagundi Club Exhibition.
Short is represented by Contemporary
Southwest Galleries, Santa Fe,
NM; Huntsman Gallery, Aspend,
CO; Chasen Galleries, Sarasota,
FL., and Richmond, VA; Heritage
Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ; and
Yoshida's Fine Art Gallery,
Troutdale, OR. |
